Scientists in Italy (Galbiati et al) obtained blood from pregnant women at different stages of pregnancy, as early as 6 weeks pregnant. They identified fetal DNA then amplified it using PCR. They studied 1,837 women. This included women with previous pregnancies, miscarriages and live births. After the women gave birth, their results were 99% accurate for predicting fetal sex.
