DNA Testing for Grandparents

A Grandpaternity test is considered the best relationship DNA test to determine paternity of a child when the alleged father is deceased or otherwise unavailable to provide his sample for DNA testing. It is best to include the mother, child and paternal grandparents (mother and father of the alleged father). When both of the alleged father’s parents participate, the alleged father’s DNA profile can then be reconstructed, thus comparing that alleged father’s reconstructed profile against the child’s DNA profile yield results that are as accurate as a paternity test.
