DNA Paternity Testing Options
Establishing paternity means being declared the legal father after the child is born. If the parents of a child
were not married when the mother became pregnant or when the child was
born, the child does not have a legal father until paternity is established.
Depending on your circumstances, DNA Profiles of America provides several paternity testing options
to suit your needs, including our home paternity test kit, our legal paternity
test and our prenatal paternity tests.
Accredited Legally Admissible Paternity Test
These results are official, notarized documents and are admissible in courts nationwide. If
you need a paternity test for legal purposes, such as divorce, child
custody, or child support proceedings, we will make arrangements to
have your samples taken at one of our nationwide collection facilities.
We can facilitate your needs even if you should live in a
different city or state than the other tested party. All DNA
samples are obtained under strict chain-of-custody collection
methods, which proves to the court that the samples were collected from
the parties involved in your situation. Our collectors will then
properly package and overnight specimen to our lab for testing.
Our
home paternity test option is an available option that you can do
in the privacy of your own home. It is much like a home drug
test or a home pregnancy test, except that you send it to our lab for
testing. At your request, we will mail you a
collection kit and instructions on proper collection procedures.
This is a
simple, painless process, involving the use of a cheek
swab. All kits come with an express envelope that you ship
overnight
to our lab. The results are just as accurate and tested the same
way
as a legal test, but is non-admissible in court
because there is no chain-of-custody.
An
amniocentesis can be performed in the second
trimester, anywhere from the 14th-24th weeks of
pregnancy. During this procedure, the doctor uses
ultrasound to guide a thin needle into your
uterus, through your abdomen. The needle draws out
a small amount of amniotic fluid, which is tested.
Risks include a small chance of harming the baby
and miscarriage. Other side effects may include
cramping, leaking amniotic fluid, and vaginal
bleeding. A doctors consent is needed to do this
procedure for paternity testing. You are also
responsible for any doctor's fees relating to this
procedure.
Price: $750.00 (see pricing page to order online)
Chorionic Villi Sampling (CVS)
This test consists of a thin needle or tube which
a doctor inserts from the vagina, through the
cervix, guided by an ultrasound, to obtain
chorionic villi. Chorionic villi are little finger
like pieces of tissue attached to the wall of the
uterus. The chorionic villi and the fetus come from
the same fertilized egg, and have the same genetic
makeup. This testing can be done earlier in
pregnancy from the 9-12 weeks. A doctors
consent is needed to do this procedure for
paternity testing. You are also responsible for
any doctor's fees relating to this procedure.
