There are other companies offering home-collection DNA kits in which the consumer can collect their own DNA sample and then store it at home. While it may seem like a quick and inexpensive safety measure for parents, most individuals don’t understand that these home-collected samples may not be usable down the road. While keeping a DNA sample at home may seem like a convenient alternative, humidity, changes in temperature, and improper storage and handling can render the sample useless when it is needed most. How the DNA Safeguarding process works:

1. Collect your child's DNA sample in the privacy of your home using the simple cotton cheek swab provided.

2. Mail your DNA sample to DNA Profiles of America in the envelope provided.

3. Your child's DNA sample will be preserved in a secure, climate-controlled facility for a period of 5 years.

4. We will send you a laminated wallet ID card with the toll-free number to our lab should an emergency arise.

5. You will also receive a DNA Safeguarding certificate from out lab with your child's name and safeguarding number, as well as our full contact information.
